the sweet aroma of your apology,
drifting in our living room,
shapes in its mist an effigy
to the deity we made into our heirloom
a single cup, filled to the brim,
which you lay in the comfort of my hands
as we try our best to forget him;
yet this wound withstands time’s sands
perhaps these walls can contain us,
turn our solid beans into loose powder,
give us a mug where we hold forgiveness
and ground our past into newfound power.
